A commercial boiler is nothing like the one you may have in your basement. Because they are responsible for providing heat to a much larger building, they are larger models. They are built to be sturdy and reliable, and they are much larger in size. Plants and industries around use these models to At Cranney Companies, we are ready to install, repair, maintain, or replace your commercial boiler.

How Does a Boiler Work?

Commercial boilers are pressurized systems. Some burn fuel, while others use electricity to heat water that heats your building in return. Other models use hot water itself, or steam power. Most boilers use natural gas as a fuel source, but other models are available that burn oil or use electricity to produce heat.

When the boiler is switched on, the burners or electric coils are activated depending on the model and its fuel source. When they produce heat, it’s transferred to the water in the tank. This results in either hot water or steam, which circulates through the pipes in your building. Radiators or specialized vents deliver the heat to the different areas.

Due to the complexity of these systems, it’s important that you schedule routine inspection and maintenance. Call Cranney Companies today for all of your boiler maintenance needs.

Major Parts

Like a residential boiler, parts are consistent with various models. Here are some of the major components that are working in your commercial boiler:

  • Burner: The burner is one of the most important parts of your furnace. This area is where the flames that heat the water in the tank are located. There should always be a constant balance of fuel and oxygen in the burner to work safely and efficiently.
  • Combustion chamber: This is the section of the boiler where fuel is burned. In order to heat the water, fuel needs to be heated to a burning temperature. The combustion chamber is designed to do it safely and is usually made of cast iron, steel, or other materials that can handle such high temperatures.
  • Controls: System controls allow you to have adjusted the settings. Water temperature, pressure, ignition, and air and fuel supply are adjusted with system controls. As you monitor the heating function in your commercial building, you will be able to adjust settings accordingly. The controls also monitor the temperature inside of the tank to make sure it doesn’t reach dangerous levels.
  • Exchanger: The heat exchanger takes the heat made by the burners to the water in the boiler tank.
  • Exhaust: The exhaust stack, or flue, are pipes that take the gasses away from your facility. These gasses contain harmful contaminants like carbon monoxide so it’s important that they exit properly and efficiently.
